International World Elders Day Celebration Loading: Our Journey to a Poultry Farm

Often we forget to celebrate our senior citizens.

Often we think they are no longer relevant in the scheme of things in the society. Many elderly persons are lonely and are often left out in family fun times. Last year during the party time set aside to celebrate our senior citizens in the south west Nigeria by Radio Nigeria Ibadan, we were moved emotionally and words failed us. A number of senior citizens were brought in on wheel chairs, some had walking sticks; many came in looking so excited and happy.

A woman brought her mother and told us that it was the first time in a long while since she went outside her home to enjoy any fun activity. I was really touched in my heart.

This year again the Radio Nigeria Ibadan, Ike Agba team in collaboration with the University College Hospital Ibadan is giving our senior citizens another memorable day as we celebrate them.

Now it has not been easy raising funds to organize the event. The team has sourced for donations and support from individuals, organizations and business owners. One of such kind hearted individuals is a poultry farmer. So off we went to his farm to collect his generous donation of birds in order to provide protein for our elders.

Oh, our travail walking through bushy paths, water logged with tiny insects biting our legs ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

It is a fun but exhausting work. We had to take the chickens to a market to be slaughtered. This also took some time. We are glad to serve in this capacity. Still a lot to do though in terms of logistics and budget but the day is almost here. We are seriously looking forward to the day.

So come 2nd October, 2017 we will be celebrating our senior citizens at Fun Factory, Osuntokun Street, Ibadan starting from 10am.

Lots of side attractions will feature: music, drama, medical check, prizes to be won and more.

Do something to celebrate our senior citizens. Share your plans and events here.
